the wait
February 1, 2026
it’s the early morning, before sunrise. doves coo outside my window. my neighbor is already out scraping a dusting of snow off his driveway. the sound is repetitive, a bit grating. i make green tea to accompany my early rise, hoping the combination makes me more wise? or at least more awake. i type poetry on my phone to pass the time.

thinking about
- february 20th: the date the grad school decisions drop.
- celestial alignments: my lunar, jupiter, and mars returns are all clustering around academic milestones. i usually look backward with astrology, but the timing here is hard to ignore.
- rhyme scheme:
i'm not a rhyming poet.
i'm a "dump prose on a page, add visual
structure, and call it a poem" poet.
i'm learning from my linguist friends
who study crosslinguistic poetry and
translation and i'm wondering what
they think of this technique. maybe i
need to try out a different method
for a change. or maybe i
need to read poetry better than mine.
